Become an Officer

Are you interested in contributing to the civil engineering profession and supporting your local engineering community? The ASCE San Jose Branch welcomes individuals who are eager to get involved by serving on our leadership team.

The Executive Board is responsible for guiding the Branch’s mission, strategic direction, and financial stewardship. Board members provide governance, establish policy, approve budgets, and support development initiatives. In collaboration with committee chairs and members, the Board ensures the organization operates ethically, efficiently, and in alignment with its goals.

In addition to the Executive Board, the Branch relies on a range of committees, each led by a Committee Chair, to plan and execute events, initiatives, and outreach efforts that support the professional and public mission of ASCE.

The President, Vice President, and Secretary are elected annually by the membership.  The Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Director-at-Large, and Committee Chairs are appointed by the Executive Board.

All officers and committee chairs serve a one-year term, with the exception of the webmaster which requires a two-year commitment. Terms follow the ASCE year which begins October 1st and ends September 30th.

Nominations & Elections

Nominations for Executive Board and Committee Chair positions open in July. The nomination window for Executive Board roles typically closes first and is followed by elections if there are multiple candidates. For positions with a single nominee, the nomination is shared with the membership for review. Elections, when held, run for a period of two weeks. After the election concludes, the Executive Board convenes to review appointed officer nominations. Officers, both elected and appointed, are announced in August.
